In 2009 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the first Mini Car, the Royal Mint released a very Limited Issue £10 Ten Pound Silver Proof Coin struck in solid .925 Sterling Silver weighing five ounces of Silver on behalf of Alderney.
The Mark I Mini (1959–1967) was the first version of British Motor Corporation’s Mini. It is characterized by its sliding windows, external door hinges and “moustache” grille. In the United Kingdom the Mark I was produced between 1959 and 1967, with production in Australia continuing until 1970.
The reverse of the coin displays David Cornell’s design of a side image of the Mini. Included as well is the inscription “Mini” and “50th Anniversary of the first Mini.” The proof silver design includes a full color British Union flag on the roof of the coin.
The obverse or heads side of the coin features Ian Rank-Broadley’s profile of Queen Elizabeth II. Also shown is “ALDERNEY ”
This coin comes in a neat case with a certificate of authentication. There is also a booklet providing information on the “Mini”
