The Adoration of the Kings Masterpieces painting is very often misleadingly attributed to Antonio Balestra (12 August 1666 – 21 April 1740) who was an Italian painter of the Rococo period. In fact it is a masterpiece of art by Niccolò Bambini (1651–1736) who also was an Italian painter of the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods. He was born in Venice and first studied under Giulio Mazzoni in Venice, but afterwards went to Rome, where he became a student of Carlo Maratti. He painted for the church of San Stefano soon after his return from Rome. He died in Venice.
