This beautiful 2 Oz Silver coin is dedicated to the 230th Anniversary of the 11 ships that departed from Portsmouth, England on 13 May 1787 – the First Fleet. The coin has a wonderful design, has a beautiful Relief and comes in a themed case, along with the Certificate of Authenticity. Limited mintage to only 788 pieces worldwide!
First Fleet
The First Fleet is the name given to the 11 ships that departed from Portsmouth, England on 13 May 1787 to found the penal colony that became the first European settlement in Australia. The Fleet consisted of two Royal Navy vessels, three store ships and six convict transports, carrying between 1,000 and 1,500 convicts, marines, seamen, civil officers and free people (accounts differ on the numbers), and a vast quantity of stores. From England, the Fleet sailed southwest to Rio de Janeiro, then east to Cape Town and via the Great Southern Ocean to Botany Bay, arriving over the period of 18 to 20 January 1788, taking 250 to 252 days from departure to final arrival.
The reverse of the coin features a beautiful image of the commander ship HMS Sirius, surrounded by the other 10 ships that followed the colonial mission. Each vessel is followed by its name: Lady Penrhyn, Alexander, Charlotte, Borrowdale, Fishburn, Friendship, Golden Grove, Scarborough, Prince of Wales, HMS Supply and HMS Sirius. On the bottom of the coin, the inscriptions: “1788” – the year of the expedition and “THE FIRST FLEET” – the name of the coin. The obverse of the coin features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the inscriptions: “ELIZABETH II” – the name of the Queen, “NIUE” – the issuing country, “2018” – the year of issue, “2OZ 999 SILVER” – the weight of the coin and the fineness of the Silver and “FIVE DOLLARS” – the face value.
