MINOTAUR Ancient Myths. This stunning silver piece is the second coin in the new Ancient Myths series covering the hugely popular topic of the ancient world. Struck from 2 oz silver 999 in high relief, the 50 mm coin is enhanced with a special weapon insert made out of brass with jewellery spikes. With the limited mintage of 500 pieces worldwide, each coin is numbered and comes housed in a special wooden box with a numbered CoA inside. The small effigy of Queen Elizabeth II is quite isolated from the obverse design, as well as the unobtrusive inscriptions of the face value of the coin, its metal fineness, issuing year and country. The splendid rimless reverse dislplays Minotaur with his weapon made out of brass with jewellery spikes. A monster with the body of a man and the head and tail of a bull, the Minotaur was the offspring of the Cretan Queen Pasiphae and a majestic bull. Due to the Minotaur’s monstrous form, King Minos ordered the craftsman, Daedalus, and his son, Icarus, to build a huge maze known as the Labyrinth to house the beast. The latter remained in the Labyrinth receiving annual offerings of youths and maidens to eat.
