Royal Family
The British royal family comprises the monarch of the United Kingdom and her close relations. There is no strict legal or formal definition of who is or is not a member of the British royal family and, apart from Queen Elizabeth II herself, different lists include different people. Those who at the time are entitled to the style His or Her Royal Highness (HRH), and any styled His or Her Majesty (HM), are normally considered members, including those so styled before the beginning of the current monarch’s reign. By this criterion, a list of the current royal family will usually include the monarch, the children and male-line grandchildren of the monarch and previous monarchs, the children of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales, and all their current or widowed spouses. The reverse of the coin is designed by Canadian artist Joel Kimmel to commemorate the wedding of HRH Prince Harry of Wales and Ms. Meghan Markle with a finely engraved engagement portrait of the Royal couple-to-be. This depiction is exquisitely edged with Canadian maple leaves intertwined with roses and escallop shells from Prince Harry’s coat of arms. For an added symbolic touch, three genuine Swarovski crystals edge the loving portrait as a symbolic representation of the couple’s three-stone diamond engagement ring. On the top of the reverse, the inscription: “CANADA” – the issuing country. The obverse of the coin features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the inscriptions: “ELIZABETH II” – the name of the Queen, “20 DOLLARS” – the face value, “D·G·REGINA” – Dei Gratia Regina, “2018” – the year of issue.
