This awesome silver coin presented by Tanzania showcases one of nature’s wonders – the Cymothoe hobarti butterfly, indigenous to the tropical forests of Tanzania and neighboring countries such as Uganda, Kenya and Congo.

The obverse shows the coat of arms of Tanzania as well as the inscriptions of the face value of the coin and the issuing country.

When you turn the coin around, the reverse side fascinates you at first sight! The designers chose to depict the butterfly in full color, and 3D, which is a perfect decision to let collectors enjoy the perfection of this delicate creature. The Cymothoe hobarti butterfly was placed here using the special 3D technology, so its wings rise above the surface of the coin as if it was about to flutter away. The flower in the background enhances the insect’s finesse, so the overall impression made by the reverse is better than great. Hobart’s Red Glider (Cymothoe hobarti) is a species of butterfly of the Nymphalidae family. It is found in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. The habitat consists of lowland to submontane forests.

The larvae feed on Rinorea species.Males mud puddle and both sexes are attracted to fermenting fruit.
