VICTORIA, THE ROMAN EQUIVALENT OF NIKE, was the epitome of success and military strength of the Roman Empire. Numerous temples were erected in honor of the beautiful goddess. The effigy of a winged young woman holding a laurel wreath in her hand was often used in applied arts of the Imperium Romanum, including ancient Roman coinage.
